Guides on finding, understanding and dealing with wasp nests.
Between booking a same-day wasp nest treatment and the technician arriving, there are a few hours to fill. This checklist shows what to do, and what to avoid, while you wait.
A nest in the eaves or under the tiles puts wasps at head height on a ladder, which is exactly why this is a job for a technician and not for a householder.
A wasp nest under the eaves or high on a gable looks like a quick job, but working on a ladder near angry wasps is where most of the danger lies.
Wasp season is not a single date but a sequence: a queen in spring, a growing colony in summer, a peak in August and a slow decline in autumn.
A steady line of wasps at one air brick or gap in the mortar is the clearest outward sign that a nest is hiding inside the wall.
